Ringo Starr – Goodnight Vienna

Ringo Starr - Goodnight Vienna CB032 front

“Klaatu barada nikto!” What an album cover. Ringo’s head pasted onto Michael Rennie’s body and Gort standing in the foreground from the 1951 movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. This was Ringo’s fourth studio album and I think worth the admission just for Hoyt Axton’s ‘No No Song’ and the cover of The Platters “Only You (And You Alone)’. Ringo had lots of help on this release including John Lennon, Elton John, Harry Nilsson, Billy Preston, Klaus Voorman, Nicky Hopkins, Gary Wright and many others.

A most interesting promotional commercial was produced for this album. It features the Capitol Records building at Hollywood and Vine as well as a flying saucer with Lennon doing the voice over. Watch it here. Enjoy CB
